Honor Chapman’s untimely passing was and is still felt by an extraordinary number of people. Many
words have been written about her enormous contribution to the rebirth of London in the 1990s,
and about how her career touched and improved a wide variety of urban landscapes. Honor’s dedication
to the growth and evolution of property research was hugely instrumental in making the discipline
what it is today. For many of us it was Honor’s mentoring, her inspirational ideas and enthusiasm
to help people in their own careers that remains the source of the most meaningful memories.
A number of Honor’s clients and peers were very keen to recognize Honor’s contribution in particular
to London’s renaissance, so in 2011 JLL brought together Great Portland Estates, Grosvenor, Land
Securities and the London Communications Agency who, as a first step, jointly sponsored the book
London: World City, a look back at the influence Honor had on London and a look forward
to its future challenges.
Another group, her colleagues, her academic contacts, people she mentored, her friends, and
those who had been inspired by her work, wanted to continue to mark her contribution by creating
an annual lecture to be given by people at the top of their profession to the wider business
and student community. While the series is not exclusively seeking female lecturers, it is promoting
women’s leadership in business and property.
